Back in 2003, there was a fateful basketball game at the old Doubleclick offices on 34th St. After the game, Arnold Sanchez, Nick Mahedy, Aam Pacelli, Joe McHugh and Dave Fausel sat around at the Irish pub across the street, having lunch/drinking beers and watching college hoops. A discussion about the state of NY ultimate ensued, primarily based around whether Joe was going to play open again. Joe brought up going to the Masters division. Of course Paches and Flash were in. Nick was in because he didn't know any better. And Arnold insisted still "I got it for open, bro." Arnold was allowed to boast, as it was figured he would come around eventually. Some might say you shouldn't plan a team while intoxicated, but it can be argued that, in this case, it worked out pretty well. Since then, Above & Beyond has won Masters Easterns, Open Sectionals and Northeast Regionals once each. The team has qualified for UPA Nationals three straight times (2004-2006), reaching the finals in 2005 and the semis in 2006.
